Things To Do Before Moving Into A New House
Nakul Kongovi | October 4th , 2016
Everything owned by you is packed into a moving van and you are on your way to your new house. The old home sits empty, awaiting its new residents. You have taken care of all the bills to be payed, you have the money to pay for the movers along with the set of keys of your new home. You have the copy of the floor plan in the file right beside you, which is marked up to help you with where everything needs to go. You have also arranged for people to help you unload the truck and arrange the furniture at your new home.
But is that all?? Are these the only things to take care of before you sell your house fast and move into a new home? What else do you have to pay attention to? Find out here.
1. Change The Locks of Your New House:
Most of us tend to make this mistake of not changing the lock before moving into a new house. It is very important that as soon as you are done with the closing, and you have the keys to your house, have a locksmith come over to your home to install new locks.

It is obvious that the keys of your new house is possessed by previous owners, Realtors, maintenance people, and you really don’t know who else is in the list. As a necessary security step, get new locks installed immediately.
2.Get Your New House Cleaned Before Moving In:
Though most of the homes go through a professional cleaning before the previous owners move out, you will want to clean everything for yourself once. In some cases, due to the extended period for which the house has been empty, it necessarily needs another clean.

You can hire professional cleaners who specializes in house cleaning and have them over to do a thorough job, especially on bathrooms, kitchens, cabinets and counters.
3. Your New House Needs an Exterminator:
Nothing is worse than having roaches and mice roaming around in your new house on your first night. It is always advisable to call an exterminator to get rid of any type of insects and rodents before moving into a new house.

Make sure that you take care of this at least one week before you move in to your new house. Having an exterminator at your home before moving in is always a good idea because, once you move in and set up your new home, it becomes really difficult to get rid of the pests or rodents.
4.Do Not Forget To Change Your Address:
It is important that you take care of this as soon as possible. You wouldn’t want to rely on the owners of your old home to forward all your mails for you. Stop at your local post office and get your address changed to make sure you get all your mails on time.

You should also make sure that you change your address with creditors, financial institutions, publications, banks, schools and anyone else who is important.
5.Pack a Tool Box For Your New House:
This is one of those things which most of us tend to overlook. Before moving into a new house, it is always useful to carry an unpacking box. This box should mostly contain tools such as scissors, screwdrivers, duct tapes, zip-lock bags, glue, screws, etc.

These items will not only help you in setting up your new house, but will also save your time by making sure you have the required tool readily available whenever you need it.
It is evident that you are bound to be full of excitement when you are moving to your new home. But at the same time these are some of the things you tend to leave until the last minute, that should be taken care of well in advance. Follow these guidelines to make moving to a new house as stress free as possible.
